Leadership
The Team
Bob Simon is the founder and managing partner of SunWave Ventures, a private early-stage investment firm focused on breakthrough science, deep technology, and mission-driven companies around the Pacific and Atlantic of North and South America, through Asia, and into the Middle East and North Africa.
Simon holds a bachelor's degree in marine biology and a master's degree in public health and bioengineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He began his career in the early days of shrimp farming in Ecuador before transitioning to wild-caught fisheries in Alaska with SeaWest Industries, later acquired by Trident Seafoods — gaining hands-on, ground-level experience in many ventures across the seafood industry before he was forty.
In 1986, he founded NOVA Fisheries, Inc. in Seattle. Over 35 years, NOVA grew into one of the Pacific Northwest's most influential seafood companies — pioneering the Alaska weathervane scallop fishery, helping establish the southern king crab fishery off Argentina, and bringing products to retail and restaurant markets in all fifty states and more than twenty countries. The company completed the sale of its manufacturing and customer business in December 2021.
Since the sale of NOVA, Simon has led SunWave Ventures and remains active in philanthropy through the Simon Family Charitable Trust, which he has administered since 1987. He served 12 years as a board trustee with Northwest Harvest, a Washington State food justice organization, and currently serves on the board at Kline Galland, an innovative, multifaceted Seattle senior care organization.
He holds a deep personal commitment to the companies and founders he partners with — often serving as a board member, strategic advisor, and long-term collaborator well beyond the initial investment.
